Beginning Orchestra  

Time: Tuesday 5:00- 5:45p.m.
 
Course Description: WFCYO Beginning Orchestra class is for students who have no previous experience playing string instruments and would like to learn. Students will learn to play with correct posture, technique, and read notes in the staff. This course will focus on Your enrollment includes access to all workshops and masterclasses for the fall.

Early Intermediate Orchestra 

Time: Tuesdays 5:00-5:45p.m. 
 
Class Description: WFCYO’s Early Intermediate class is for students who have taken our beginning orchestra course and are ready for the next level of instruction. This course will enable students to play notes on all strings, read notes in the staff, and receive more practice playing parts independently in a group ensemble.  Your enrollment includes access to all workshops and masterclasses for the fall.

Intermediate Level II Orchestra 

Time: Tuesdays 6:00p.m. – 6:45p.m. 
 
Course Description: This class is for students who have taken our early intermediate orchestra course and are ready for the next level of instruction. This course will focus on skills needed to refine musical development including the use of vibrato, extreme dynamics, shifting in 2nd and 3rd positions, 2 octave scales, and play the all-state orchestra audition piece. Students will perform music requiring increased technical skill, improve sight reading skills, and prepare for entry into higher level ensembles. Students will learn in a virtual setting for Fall 2020.

Intro to Chamber Music  

Time: Tuesdays 6:00p.m.- 6:45p.m. 
 
WFCYO’s Intro to Chamber Music is for students who are beyond the intermediate level. Students enrolling in this class must already be comfortable with using vibrato, must be able to shift in 1st- third positions, and be able to play 2 octave major and minor scales with arpeggios. This course will focus on students ability to play in a variety of small ensembles such as duos, trios, and quartets. Students will learn standard chamber music repertoire, which requires increased technical skill and ability. Students will master 3 octave scales with arpeggios, shifting beyond 3rd position, and demonstrate various bow strokes on their instrument. Due to the rigorous nature of chamber music, students are expected to practice at least 2 additional hours per week outside of class. The cost of this course includes the software license subscription for the semester where students will practice together virtually and record during rehearsals. Students will learn in a virtual setting for Fall 2020.

Advanced Chamber Players 

Time: Thursdays 6:00p.m. – 7:00p.m. 
 
WFCYO’s Advanced Chamber Players are for students who have experience playing in advanced string duos, trios, and quartets. Students enrolling in this class must have advanced technical skill, refined vibrato, mastered shifting in 3rd-6th positions, and fortitude to practice on their own. The repertoire will include a mix of pop, contemporary, and classical music which requires advanced technical skill and ability. Students will receive private coaching from professional teaching artists and will be expected to practice and perform at a high level. At least 2-3 additional hours of practice is expected per week outside of class to master the material. The cost of this course includes the software license subscription for the semester where students will practice together virtually and record during rehearsals. Students will learn in a virtual setting for Fall 2020. 

Piano for the Older Beginner

Time: Tuesdays: 4:00p.m. – 4:45p.m. 
 
This class is for older students (middle, high school, or adults) who have no experience playing piano and would like to learn. This is an 8 week course from September 21, 2020- November 9, 2020. Students will learn how to read notation, demonstrate basic hand positions, and learn how to read and play chords. Electric piano keyboards (61-keys) are limited and are offered on a first come, first served basis. Students will learn in a virtual setting for Fall 2020.

Beginning Acoustic Guitar 

Time: Tuesdays 5:00p.m.- 5:45p.m. 
 
WFCYO’s beginning acoustic guitar if for students who have no experience playing the instrument and would like to learn. This is an 8 week course from September 21, 2020- November 9, 2020. Instruments are limited and are offered on a first come, first served basis. Students will learn in a virtual setting for Fall 2020.
